Description
Thrift for Good is a thrift store based in Dubai that is dedicated to reducing waste and helping children around the world in partnership with Gulf for Good. They are registered as a for-profit company, but are partnered the non-profit organization that has fundraising approval from the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department. The store was founded in February 2020 and opened its doors in November of that year.
Thrift for Good aims to combat this problem by offering a selection of gently used clothing and accessories at affordable prices, encouraging customers to choose secondhand items first. All of the store's profits are donated to the children's charity projects of Gulf for Good, which focus on poverty alleviation, health, and education. The fast fashion industry, which produces an estimated 150 billion garments each year, is a major contributor to environmental degradation and labor abuses. Up to 60% of these clothes end up in landfills within a year, often in developing countries where they can have negative socio-economic and environmental impacts. Saying this, Thrift for Good is committed to zero waste, working with partners to repair, recycle, or rehome all items that come through their doors. The store is powered by volunteers and sponsors and aims to donate 50% of its monthly revenues to children's charities.
